Mortimer Trail part two: Lyepole Bridge to Kington

From the drop off point at Lyepole Bridge there is a short leg stretch along a country lane before tackling the steady climb up onto the wooded Shobdon Hill on good paths and forestry tracks. Once over Shobdon Hill views open out on reaching Byton Common with the classic cone shaped Whimble of the Radnor Hills visible to the west. A short road section after Byton then leads onto a hard climb up onto Wapley Hill with a large Iron Age Hillfort located within the Wapley Hill Forest. From here easy walking takes the route along to the last climb of the trail over Rushock Hill and a section of Offa's Dyke before a long descent down to the market town of Kington and the end of the Mortimer Trail.

Bring a packed lunch and adequate drink for a 9 hour walk as there is no opportunity to replenish water bottles.
