On the Trail of the Mortimers

(due to be published mid-late April 2016) £7.50

‘On the Trail of the Mortimers’ interweaves the history of the Mortimers with the locations and artefacts on the trail that are a physical reminder of their domination of the area and a visible link to when the Welsh Marches were of national importance and affected the destiny of the country. The area of the trail includes at least 17 sites of castles, 15 churches, an abbey and a priory, and 3 sites of battles and conflict that changed the course of national history. There are many artefacts around the area that give an insight into the lives of the Mortimers.

Mortimer Country Car Trail

Mortimer Country Audio Car Tour

You can now fit an English Civil War heroine into your car along with several modern-day residents of the area of north-west Herefordshire known as `Mortimer Country' - and it won't be a squeeze at all. This is the third in the series of Herefordshire’s Hidden Extras audio car tours. The 45-mile circular route begins and ends in Ludlow   We introduce you to current residents as well as some of the historical characters who played an important part in shaping the area. For instance Lady Brilliana Harley, who defended Brampton Bryan against the Royalists in the 17th Century, is just one of the people you will hear, and we tell you about the huge yew hedge around the churchyard.
