A Warm Welcome from Mortimer Country

Mortimer Country is working hard to publicise this beautiful area of North Herefordshire and welcome visitors to the area.  We have members from many different types of businesses – all of whom provide a warm welcome to visitors.

If you want to find out about more about how our members provide such an excellent service – here is a list of  some of the places they find help and training (and for potential members – this is a good place to find new info)

For Accommodation Rules and Regulations

The Pink Booklet Online is a must have resource to ensure that you keep up to date with all of the legislation you need to run an tourist accommodation business. As well as access to all of the information online you'll receive email updates to tell you when the legislation changes.  Legislation covers responsibilities  such as fire precautions, display orders, food safety/hygiene, licensing, health and safety, discrimination, trade descriptions, data protection, Hotel Proprietors Act, cancellation policies and complaints procedures and how to maintain adequate insurance cover.

A Friendly welcome comes naturally in Mortimer Country  – but training help is given by Welcome to Excellence who  offer customer service training courses that lead the way in customer service quality standards worldwide.

Quality Assessments

Our members participate in many national review schemes to grade & review their accommodation standards. Visit Britain, the British tourist board operates the Quality in Tourism scheme giving stars and awards. But there are also schemes run by Shropshire Tourism locally and of course Trip Advisor and booking agencies run their own review schemes.

Accessible Accommodation

Under the DDA ( Disability Discrimination Act ) all businesses must make reasonable adjustments to their property to enable disabled guests access. The key word here is reasonable and the types of adjustments made will depend on the size of business.

However by making your property accessible you are broadening your market and potentially tapping into a great repeat market. The National Accessibility Scheme provides more details of what you need to do and allows you to display an appropriate symbol on your marketing.

For Green Accommodation and other business types

These days it's more important than ever to consider the environment when running a business. As well as the obvious benefits to the environment itself, you will save money and also potentially attract more business as more and people are choosing the greener options. The Green Tourism Business Scheme is an accreditation scheme that helps you show how "green" your business is.
