Aardvark Easter Event

Aardvark Easter Event and Sculpture exhibition opening

Dates: 31/03/2019 - 31/03/2019

Your invitation to join Mortimer Country Consortium for 2017 – your local tourism group.

** Membership renewal fee and update on inspection criteria for accommodation providers.

-  The membership fee has been reduced to a modest £40 for 2017.

-  In line with all other local tourism organisations, there is no longer a requirement for accommodation providers to be inspected by a recognised scheme. However, all should be providing a quality service.  There is a guidance section on the web site outlining best practice and where to look for advice to maintain standards. All accommodation providers are asked to confirm their agreement to provide a quality service.

Here is what your membership fee provides:-

** Brochure.   Producing a brochure is a major expense and it’s time to rebalance our spending on advertising.  The brochure will therefore be smaller in 2017 with fewer words, BUT it will retain a listing of businesses and events. Most importantly there will still be a map, as we know from experience that this is particularly valued by the local Visitor Information Centres to locate Mortimer Country for visitors.

**  Web Site.  An effective web site is a crucial marketing tool and we intend to invest more money in www.exploremortimercountry.com  over the next year or two. Our web site guru, Kay Dartnell, has put in much work in keeping the site content up to date and this is certainly paying off.  The web site continues to flourish with an ever increasing number of ‘hits’.  Explore the site and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the amount of really useful information there is to encourage visitors  - and it’s clearly working.    Here are a couple of recent examples:

+ A Canadian visitor who was researching his family name of Mortimer:-

- stayed at Mortimer's Cross Inn

- bought cycling maps from Wheely Wonderful Cycling and would have cycled…but weather prevented

- had a guided tour of Wigmore Castle from Philip Hume and bought 20 “On the Trail of the Mortimer's”

- ate at the Castle Inn          .................   and we think he will be coming back in the future!

+ A potential visitor from Germany, with a big interest in ancient trees, asked for advice and is planning to visit both Brampton Bryan Park and Croft Castle next year.

** Facebook. Our page ‘Explore Mortimer Country’ continues to gain ‘likes’.  There is now a ‘shop’ button and members are welcome to advertise suitable products here – contact Kay Dartnell. Two of the committee have undertaken training events to keep up to speed with this form of advertising.

** Newsletter and updates.  All members receive a regular newsletter and other updates.

** The hard work and commitment of your committee.   As well as their dedication to the well being of MCC, several committee members are also active in other local organisations. This is an excellent way of networking and raising the profile of MCC for the benefit of us all.  Kay Dartnell and Cynthia Prior are on the Board of Shropshire Hills Tourism and Cynthia is also a member of Shropshire Gold. Jenny Beard has many roles including Herefordshire Sustainable Food and Drink Partnership, Herefordshire Chamber, Herefordshire Leader LAG and Herefordshire Historic Churches Trust.  Philip Hume is much involved with The Mortimer History Society.

** The AGM will be held in February 2017 and we will be letting you have details shortly. This is an opportunity for you to come along and meet 'the committee' and other members of MCC, BUT it is also an opportunity for you to get involved!  As always help in running MCC is very welcome.

We do hope you will wish to continue your membership for 2017 or to join as a new member.

Together we can ensure that tourism stays alive and flourishing in our wonderful area.
